Free satellite TV launched in UK

free_satellite_TV.jpgYesterday I read in BBC website about a free satellite television “Freesat” which has been launched by BBC and ITV. It will have 80 digital TV and radio channels. BBC has plans to increase the number of channels to 200 by the end of 2008. The service is completely free, only the users will have to pay for the hardware which includes dish, set top box and minimal installation fees. There is no concept of monthly subscription in this completely free service. According to BBC, you have to invest around £ 150-200 to purchase its hardware. Almost all the BBC’s digital channels, including BBC HD, will now be available in Freesat. BBC and ITV are hoping that this service would also increase the interest of people in high definition television.

On Freesat, the users will have big choice of channels like entertainment, news, sports, movies, cartoons, health, and business. Moreover, there will be up to five times better picture quality supported with amazing audio and sound performance. Due to these lucrative offers, there is now a shortage of freesat HD boxes in UK shops. I am wondering when such services will be launched in India. If you have any answer or opinion then please post your valuable comments.

Satellite television is TV service which is delivered by the help of communications satellites. This service is not there in India. We have only conventional terrestrial television and cable television.
In some countries like US, UK satellite television provide a wider range of channels and services, including subscription-only services.
