Only after 5 months after the launch of Lively, Google has announced its discontinuation. It was an online tool that allows people to embody a cartoonish online avatar and have text-based conversations with friends and other Internet users in virtual chat rooms. The bloggers and webmasters can also add these rooms to their websites or blogs. It was very much similar to the instant messaging software IMVU and the virtual world Second Life. Google blog said, “It has been a tough decision, but we want to ensure that we prioritize our resources and focus more on our core search, ads and apps business. Lively.com will be discontinued at the end of December”
The employees who had been working on Lively will be reassigned to other projects after Lively shuts down. Actually this website performed badly on internet. Its traffic was also very less compared to other google services.

Lively users have been asked by Google official blog to capture and save their work by taking videos and screen shots of their rooms as rooms and avatars on the site will not be available after Dec. 31.

You should check out vivaty.com. It’s relatively new in virtual world realm, but had a lot of potential.
