Nexus One : The Google Phone

in: Google

Google is all set to challenge Apple’s iPhone by launching Google Phones. Google is trying to capture the market of mobile Web through this phone. Google has announced last week on its official blog that it is currently testing a new mobile device. This handset is currently being distributed to Google’s 20,000 employees, and they will be testing its various features over the next couple of weeks. In this high tech phone Google will sell an unlocked version of the touch screen phone, which will allow consumers to pick a carrier of their choice to provide mobile telephony service. The device is named Nexus One and will be manufactured by Taiwan’s HTC Corp. A picture of an experimental Android handset was posted online by Twitter user Cory O’Brien.

No doubt, Nexus One has strong resemblance to Apple iPhone. The handset might have a slightly larger display than iPhone and may not have a physical keyboard. And because of absence of keyboard, Google phone may come with a trackball. The phone looks will be quite attractive similar to other high end phones. Also Nexus one is likely to have an OLED display whereas the iPhone has LCD display.

Some salient features of Nexus One ::

  • Nexus One will have a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus.
  • For gamers, the phone will offer OpenGL ES 2.0 support.
  • Unlike iPhone, the Google handset will have an exchangeable battery and also the users can add a memory card to the device.
  • Google phone will run on Android 2.1 operating system.
  • Phone will also come with Micro SD slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  • Nexus one is going to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor.

Google has partnered with many handset makers for offering its open-source Android as a freely available operating system for smart phones. T-Mobile of USA is leading the race for getting the contract for initial release. The device is expected to go on sale as early as January 2010.
