Orkut goes mobile and dial up friendly

orkutindia.jpgAfter a long wait, finally orkut has launched its mobile and dial up friendly version. Now you can view profiles, read or post scraps, search Orkut via the Universal Search, see updates of your friends at a very slow internet connection also. The mobile version of orkut is available at m.orkut.com. Orkut has not added the facility of visiting and posting messages in communities through this mobile version. Hopefully, they may be working on that and add this feature in later versions of mobile orkut. When I tried to access orkut communities I got “bad, bad, server” error picture and error message.

Besides this, Orkut has also provided the facility to to turn on low bandwidth version of orkut. In the low bandwidth images on scrap and profile pages have been removed so that users may use orkut at a very slow internet connection like dial up connection also. You can see that option to enable low bandwidth version on the General Settings page. Still most of the orkut users in India are using slow dial up internet connection. So this step of Orkut will definitely increase their users in India.
