Happy April Fool with Google

April-Fool.jpgToday, on the occasion of April Fool, Google has come with fake “custom time feature” in Gmail to to let users send e-mails into the past. According to Google, through this feature, you can be able to send email back until April 1, 2004, the day Google launched Gmail. If you want to send an email from Gmail before Gmail existed. It is like hanging out with your parents before you were born. What a funny joke !

This is not end of the story. Today Google has provided a link to Virgle on its homepage. It is a faux collaboration on an “open-source” Mars expedition. The Virgle page says ” Earth has issues, and it’s time humanity got started on a Plan B. So, starting in 2014, Virgin founder Richard Branson and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be leading hundreds of users on one of the grandest adventures in human history: Project Virgle, the first permanent human colony on Mars”. It is accompanied by an application for interested pioneers and a video starring Page and Brin talking about this new project.

The April Fool message is “oh, all right. Fine. April Fool’s. Ha, ha, ha. It isn’t real. There. Are you happy? Does it please you to drag us out of our lovely little fantasy world, to crush all our hopes and dreams? Is that really what you need to hear? Fine, you’ve heard it. Virgle isn’t real.”

sleepy.jpgIn addition to these 1st April features, I also found Google Calendar offering users a “Free Wake Up Kit” to help them get up early in the morning. It reads “The “wake up” notification uses several progressively more annoying alerts to wake you up. First it will send an SMS message to your phone. If that fails, more coercive means will be used. The kit includes an industrial-sized bucket and is designed to be connected to your water main for automatic filling. In addition, a bed-flipping device is included for forceful removal from your sleeping quarters.”

With all these innovative April Fool jokes, Google has proved that no one can compete this company in innovating new ideas. If you want some fun on 1st April, you must try these new or better say ‘fake features’ of Google.
