47 Indian companies in Forbes Global 2000 list

Business_World.jpgLast year we have 48 Indian companies in Forbes Global 2000 list. Now this year we have 47 companies in the list. The Forbes Global 2000 is an annual ranking of the top 2000 public companies in the world by Forbes magazine. The ranking is based on a mix of four metrics: Sales, Profit, Assets and Market value. The list has been published since 2003. According the list, General Electric is the world’s largest company followed by Dutch oil and gas major Royal Dutch Shell, Japan’s Toyota Motor, ExxonMobil and the U.K.’s BP. USA, which is suffering form economic slowdown, is on first position with 551 companies. US is followed by 100 companies from Japan, 94 from United Kingdom and as many as 94 from China. Other major contributing countries on the list include France (72), Germany (57), Italy (41), Australia (44), Korea (61), Brazil (31) and Austria (13).

5 Indian companies, the scam-hit IT major Satyam, realty giant Unitech, wind power company Suzlon Energy and Anil Ambani group’s Reliance Power and Reliance Capital, which were in the list last year are now dropped. They have been replaced by Hero Honda Motors, Sun Pharma, Indian Bank and Jindal Steel and Power.

  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation — (152)
  • Indian Oil Corporation — (207)
  • NTPC — (317),
  • ICICI Bank — (329),
  • Tata Steel — (463),
  • Bharti Airtel — (508),
  • Steel Authority of India — (582)
  • Reliance Communications — (689).
