Arrival of metro train in big cities of India

in: India

delhi-metro.jpgAny city with a population of more then three million or where any transport corridor sees a density of more then 8000-12000 people, needs an efficient metro railway system. So the government in India is serious in the development of metro trains in its big cities. But there are many problems behind the development of metro trains. First one is low investment, second is inefficient management or so called corruption. Lack of resources is another big hurdle. Inspite of these problem the development of new metro trains are going on in Delhi and Bangalore. The Delhi Metro was opened on December 24, 2002. It became the second underground rapid transit system in India, after the one in operation in Kolkata. Unlike the Kolkata Metro, the Delhi Metro has a combination of elevated, at-grade and underground lines. Trains operating within the network typically travel at speeds below 80 km/h, or 50 mph, and stop about 20 seconds at each MRTS station. The Bangalore Metro is the proposed mass-transit rail system for the Indian city of Bangalore. The agency responsible for its implementation is Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd(BMRCL). Navayuga Engineering has been awarded the contract to construct the Reach 1 of the East-West line.
