According to latest corruption report released by global watchdog Transparency International, Somalia is the most corrupt nation in the world. The report has been prepared on the basis of surveys conducted in 180 countries by 13 international agencies associated with Transparency International. Somalia has not any central government since 1991 so the whole country is in the grip of violence, corruption and anarchy. Somalia is followed by Myanmar, Iraq and Haiti and Afghanistan. Whereas corruption in India has increased in last two years as position of India has increased from 72 to 85 in the list of world’s corrupt countries.
China has lesser corruption as compared to India as it is on 72nd position while Pakistan is at 134 in the list. The basis of this list is the integrity score, which is prepared by a mathematical calculation by a Switzerland-based professor on the basis of the findings of the surveys on governance. India’s integrity score has fallen from 3.5 in 2007 to 3.4 this year, indicating that corruption has marginally increased in the country. Reports say that electoral and political systems in India are the major sources of corruption.
Denmark is the least corrupt nation with integrity score 9.3. So higher the integrity score, lesser the corruption and lesser will be the rank. Other least corrupt nations are New Zealand, Sweden and Singapore. Developed nations like US, UK and Italy have also lesser corruption as compared to developing nations.
