At that time they were annoying, but they give real pleasure when you see them again after 10-12 years. So I have started a series of posts on old Indian TV advertisements. This is its first part. Actually People love watching old TV ads. That is why most of such videos are very popular on YouTube. “The well dressed, suit clad, successful looking guy followed her throughout the village. She looked tall, sensuous and gorgeous with a bandanna over her head, a scarf over her neck and the long flowing spotless white dress. She floated gracefully like a little cloud in the azure sky. He was enamored by her presence in a place where he thought he would not even find a butterfly. He followed her through since the time he laid eyes on her. She kept dodging him, half teasing, half kidding, half in fear, half in pure abandon….But he had decided to get to her. Finally he spotted her trying to mingle with the crowd at the local mela. He sent a little kid up to her with a note “You fascinate me”. She looked up and the kid pointed towards him indicating he was the one who sent the note. She smiled and he smiled back. Next scene – they take on a dance together at the mela. Frolicking together – like two little birds, two discovered souls. Happy, contented….”I used to love this Garden Vareli ad that was flashed back in the late 80s. It was short but succinct, surreal and soulful. It was sophisticated and suave. I still cannot find a parallel comparison of class. In the days devoid of deodorant and mouthwash when sweaty, smelly guys would try to oogle voraciously or pass irritating comments, this ad stood apart …..hmmm “you fascinate me” It surely did.And then there was that unmistakable jingle…”Only Vimal, Only Vimal, Only Vimal, Vimal…..” Aaah creative geniuses! You fascinate me………….finally i got the details of that advt. Please send me if you’ll get this.
