One in every 30.5 Indian emails has virus

virus.gifThis is really a bad news for internet users in India. Recently a study has said the emails in India are most vulnerable to spammers and virus attacks. According to the study conducted by a web security services firm MessageLabs “Virus activity increased across a number of countries in January, including India, which takes the number one spot with 1 in 30.5 emails whereas the global ratio of email-borne viruses in e-mail traffic was one in 131.4 emails.” In the finance sector, virus level was low in comparison with other segments where one in every 177.9 mails was affected while for the IT services sector, the figure was 143 and in retail 1 in every 125.6 emails received had a virus.

Not only virus attacks, spams are also proving to be the most disruptive element in the e-mail traffic. According to the study the global ratio of spam mail was 73.4 per cent, which means one in every 1.36 email was affected. However virus attacks on the western countries are far less than on India. In my opinion the reason for such a big difference may be the less internet awareness in India.

USA 1 out of 191.5 emails had virus
Canada 1 out of 158.4 emails had virus
New Zealand 1 out of 768 emails had virus
Australia 1 out of 298.7 emails had virus
Japan 1 out of 273.7 emails had virus
China 1 out of 92.7 emails had virus

Really, this report has put a question mark of India’s status of IT super power   :-(
