Microsoft has replaced Live Search and MSN Search with a new search engine called Bing. It was presented to internet world on 28th May by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at the All Things D conference in San Diego. However it went fully online on June 3, 2009. The word “bing” is an onomatopoeia, a word that imitates the sound it represents. Actually Bing.com is a memorable, short, easy to spell, and that it would function well as a URL around the world. In Chinese, it means a certain answer, or response to a query. Microsoft unveiled its new search engine called Bing to challenge the supermacy of Google in internet search business. The striking features of this new search engine are listing of search suggestions in real time as queries are entered, and a list of related searches based on semantic technology from PowerSet (which Microsoft acquired in 2008). It has also the ability to Save & Share search histories via Windows Live SkyDrive, Facebook, and e-mail.
Features of Bing Search Engine ::
User Interface (UI) features –
- Daily changing of background image( of some of the remarkable places in the world).
- Content sectioning of results (separate section for wallpaper, map, weather, fansites and more)
- Left side navigation pane. Includes navigation and, on resultspages, related searches and prior searches.
- Enhanced view where third party site information can be viewed insite Bing.
- Right side extended preview with list of relevant or important urls from within the article Sublinks. On certain search results, the search result page also shows sectionlinks within the article.
Image and Video features –
- Image search with continuous scrolling images results page that has adjustable settings for size, layout, color, style and people.
- Video thumbnail Preview where, by hovering over a video thumbnail, the video automatically starts playing.
- Video search with adjustable setting for length, screen size, resolution and source.
Other Features ::
- You can get latest scores of most the popular sports events.
- Enter a company name or stock symbol and either stock or quote in the search box Bing will show direct stock information like a stockchart, price, volume, and p/e ratio.
- Enter math expressions in the search box, Bing will provide a direct calculation of the expression.
- Enter the name of the shipping company and the tracking number Bing will provide direct tracking information.
- Bing can also provide Plane ticket info and flight status, Car info, Current traffic info, City hotel listings, Business listing and People listing, Localized searching for restaurants and services, Restaurant reviews, Celebrity rankings, Celebrity news, Movies played in an area, Encyclopedic answers and health info.
