Facebook replaces Yahoo from second spot in Alexa

Facebook overtakes YahooIn a major setback to the mail and online services provider Yahoo, Facebook has become the second most visited website on the internet. Google still remains at the top on the traffic ranking. These traffic rankings are provided by the Alexa, an Amazon.com company, which records the number of hits registered for each website on the internet and then ranks the websites on the basis of the number of hits. Now According to Alexa Top 500 ranking, Facebook is now ranked second, directly after Google. So the world’s biggest social networking website has surpassed Yahoo in popularity. Alexa rank measures popularity of websites among its toolbar users.

While we know that Alexa ranking is not a reliable or accurate measure of general site popularity, but this is surely a big setback for Yahoo who is struggling to maintain its user base from tough competition given by Google and Microsoft. And moreover, Yahoo is closely followed by Youtube and Microsoft, and for all we know, Youtube might overtake Yahoo soon after as well. Life is hard for Yahoo CEO.
