Through the contact us form on my blog, I got messages from some of my readers 
regarding the creation and development of this self-hosted wordpress powered blog. Actually most of the readers are from India, and here people are quite unaware of the open source tools like word-press. They have developed a thinking that if you are blogging then you must be using the blog sites like blogger, windows live, yahoo 360 etc. So through this article I want to explain how this self-hosted blog was created and what are the requirements for that ?
WordPress is a blog publishing system written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License, WordPress is free software or rather say a set of codes written in php which you can edit and modify as per as your requirements. you are free to use it for anything from your cat’s home page to a Fortune 5 web site without paying anyone a license fee.The latest release is version 2.1.2, released on March 03, 2007.
Requirements for wordpress
- PHP 4.2 or greater
- MySQL 4.0 or greater
- The mod_rewrite Apache module

If you host your own blog there are several advantages. Particularly if you plan on blogging for your business. On a self hosted blog you are in complete control. Hosting your own means you will be responsible for installing the software, installing a database of some sort keeping everything up to date and patched with current versions and all of that kind of thing.
If you are using your blog as your business or part of your business, it’s not a great idea to be promoting someone else’s domain like yourname.blogspot.com – which is essentially what you’re doing if you are using a hosted version provided by blogger, windowslive or yahoo 360 etc.
If you self host you will have your own domain name. Which means you have and are developing your own brand. In terms of SEO and marketing, this is really a huge plus point.
if you want to use your blog for professional blogging, business I will recommend to go for self hosted wordpress powered blog…..
