Betting terminology explained

Bookmaker slang phrases and terms can be pretty much like Hebrew to the novice gambler who are new to the odd terminology and betting phrases. The generally pertaining gambling lingo used by American and European bookmakers and UK sports books but many are quite universal. I have listed them for the general awareness of terms and the benefit of newbies off the block in betting scenario.

Six-Fold Accumulator
A Six-Fold Accumulator consists of 1 bet involving 6 selections in different events. All must be successful to get a return.

Trixie
A Trixie consists of 4 bets involving 3 selections in different events. The bet includes 3 doubles and 1 treble. A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return.

Goliath
A Goliath consists of 247 bets involving 8 selections in different events. The bet includes 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, 8 sevenfolds and an accumulator. A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return.

Bettor
American term for Punter – someone who places a bet.

Chalk & Chalk Player
The favorite and someone who bets on favourites

Debit Bet
A bet where no money changes ands but the bookmaker is allowed to debit money from the gambler’s bank account.
