Will China win more Gold Medals than USA?

Olympic_Beijning_2008.jpgChina is the largest country in the world in terms of population. So this time are they ready to show their strength? Will China win more Gold Medals than USA? I would say “Yes”. There are two reasons for my positive answer. The first one is home advantage of China and the other is China’s latest game plan to improve the skills of Chinese players in less popular games in which United States is weak. China expects to dominate the Olympic Games in its traditionally strong sports like diving, gymnastics, weightlifting, table tennis, badminton, shooting. At the 2004 Athens Olympics, China was only four medals behind the U.S. in gold. In the 2006 world championships, China won more golds than any team in the world.

Also Chinese Government has put huge money, time and effort into building young Chinese players in other sports like swimming, track, archery, cycling, rowing, canoe/kayak and women’s wrestling. They have given their players best training so as to take the full advantage of home grounds.

It’s all a numbers game, they’ve infused large amounts of resources behind their sports program, it’s a matter of national pride for them, they’ve hired the world’s best coaches to come in and coach their coaches for future generations.” Steve Roush, U.S. Olympic Committee’s chief of sport performance.

Looks like even US is very much worried due to tough competition in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. What do you say? Give your comments.
