According to Business Insider, Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is the fourth richest politician in the world. Her assets are expected to be worth $2-19 billion (Rs 10,000-95,000 crore). She is at the fourth place after the Saudi king, the Sultan of Brunei and Michael Bloomberg, New York’s mayor. Pakistan’s president Asif Ali Zardari is at 19th position. The website names OpenSecrets.org, Forbes.com, Bloomberg.com, Wikipedia.org and Guardian.co.uk as its sources. However, she in the 2009 general elections had declared her assets worth Rs 50-75 lakh.
Business Insider is a U.S. business/entertainment news website launched in February 2009 and based in New York City. It was founded by DoubleClick Founder and former C.E.O. Kevin P. Ryan. The site provides and analyzes business news and acts as an aggregator of top news stories from around the web.
It is very difficult for me to believe that Sonia Gandhi can accumulate this much wealth. The figure look highly inflated. According to FirstPost, since Business Insider is a highly frequented site and not a fly-by-night operator, Sonia Gandhi may need to take cognisance of this and either sue the publication or take other action to clear her name.
