5 Site optimization tips by Google

Google-SEO-tips.jpgSite optimization or Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks,” the more searchers will visit that site so there will be higher amount of traffic on that website. Recently I found some optimization tips by Google’s SEO experts, of which some of them I am sharing with you in this post.

  • If you are not sure if all your pages are being seen by Google search engine then search for your site’s address after the command “site”, like [site:abhisays.com]. When you see your pages in the results, check whether your particular page is there or not. If some information or the whole page is missing from search result or you want more details, you can also use the Content Analysis tool in Webmaster Tools provided by Google.
  • If you upload new pages or articles frequently on your website then its better to submit a new and updated Google Sitemap
  • Use proper naming conventions with images which you use in your website. If the name of the image would be relevant then users searching in Google Image Search will more easily find the image on your site. For example if you have imagae of Barack Obama then its better to name as barack_obama.jpg rather than image1.jpg or something like that.
  • Check for errors and keyword traffic in Webmaster Tools.
  • Serve accurate HTTP status codes. If you’ve retired a page permanently, serve a 404. If you’ve simply relocated it, serve a 301.
