You may have heard the name of Pownce. It is a free social networking and micro-blogging site started by Internet entrepreneurs Kevin Rose, Leah Culver, and Daniel Burka. Pownce is centered around sharing messages, files, events, and links with already-established friends. Today I got a a mail from Pownce team. It reads

We are sad to announce that Pownce is shutting down on December 15, 2008. As of today, Pownce will no longer be accepting new users or new pro accounts.

To help with your transition, we have built an export tool so you can save your content. You can find the export tool at Settings > Export. Please export your content by December 15, 2008, as the site will not be accessible after this date.

Actually, Pownce has been acquired by the blogging company Six Apart, the makers of Movable Type, TypePad and Vox. It is a new beginning for Pownce.
