Bharti Airtel India’s leading integrated telecom services provider and Apple have announced that they will launch iPhone 3G to customers in India later this year. The 3G versions will be Rs. 8k (8GB) and Rs 12k (16GB). In the US the new iPhone 3G is priced at $199 for the 8GB model, and just $299 for the 16GB model. Thus the deal that Airtel is offering is quite impressive. But here’s the catch. There is a minimum subscription of 2 years. But looking at the new features of Apple iPhone 3G, it’s worth it. Here are some of the most important features of the all new Apple iPhone 3G. 3G networks load webpage and attachments twice as fast as compared to 2G EDGE networks. It also supports WI-FI. Thus you always get the best in terms of speed as the iPhone 3G seamlessly switches between EDGE, 3G, and Wi-Fi, which is the fastest of the pack.
Meeting worldwide standards for cellular communications, one can call and surf the web from practically anywhere on the planet. A question might arise as to what would happen if one is in an area without the 3G network. IPhone has a solution for this as well. IPhone would then resort to keeping you connected via GSM for calls and EDGE for data. Now that’s really impressive, Isn’t it .
Also nowadays most new generations phones like the Nokia N series give you the advantage of multitasking. But what Apple gives you is not many cellular companies can offer -”multitasking in more places – even without a Wi-Fi. So be it surfing the web, checking email, listening to music, or even using Maps, you can do it all of them simultaneously.
Additional features supported by the iPhone include the ability to do real-time mapping and track your progress with GPS technology. So the next time you travel you need not carry a GPS with you. Also it has a new scientific calculator, parental control restrictions for specified content.
Also for people who love posting the images on the web, iPhone can save images directly from a web page or email them to your iPhone and easily transfer them back to your photo library on your Mac or PC. Now what about the battery backup? What’s a phone without a good battery life? Battery life is a bit on the weaker side, but that is quite expected with the 3.5 inch (diagonal) display. Apple claims to offer 10 hours of talk time on 2G networks, 5 hours using 3G, with up to 5 to 6 hours of web browsing, and up to 7 hours for video playback. Also it claims to have a standby of up to 300 hours. It also has a built in 2 Mega pixel camera. Overall a great cell phone for people who want to keep abreast with the latest gizmos and people on the move. I would give it a rating of 8.5/10.

I have used my friend’s IPhone, which he bought from U.S. few months back. Two issues here. Camera quality is not so good. And qwerty touch keyboard, is not well designed. I’ll rate it, 7.5/10. Well, that’s about iphone’s previous version. But as you say, these two issues are not even considered, I don’t feel so compelled to change this rating.
