Hey this is great news for webmasters and internet geeks, now they would not have to depend on suffixes like .com, .net, .biz, .org and .info for their identity on internet. Up till now, all the top-level domain names were restricted by the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) for private use. They organization has decided that now Companies and individual can have unlimited choices such as .India, .indian, .bangalore, .potato, .abhishek, .bollywood type of high level domain names. But for this you may have to pay from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 2 crore. Now you will very soon see high level domain names like .microsoft, .google, .india, .tata, .reliance, .ibm, .blog etc.

ICANN personnel has said that trademark and intellectual property owners will get priority. Applicants should show business plan and technical capacity before bidding for high level names. Disputed domains will be auctioned to the highest bidder. ICANN has also reserved the right to reject a domain on “morality or public order” grounds, and the matter may go to an international arbitration committee.
