Pioneer of chaos theory has died

Lorenz.jpgDo you know what is butterfly effect ? According to wikipedia, The phrase “butterfly effect” refers to the idea that a butterfly’s wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different. This is also known as chaos theory. Today I am not going to discuss butterfly effect or chaos theory but the purpose of this article is to pay homage to Edward N. Lorenz, a meteorologist who developed chaos theory, has died of cancer at age 90 in his home in Cambridge. He was the first person to find the chaotic behavior in the mathematical modeling of weather systems, when he realized that small differences in a dynamic system could trigger vast and often unsuspected results. There is one Hollywood movie called “The Butterfly Effect” on his theories. May God bless his soul
