Last night I registered a new domain name on GoDaddy. The domain name is daano.com. Daano used to be my nickname during school days. So from there I got the idea to register this name. Fortunately, it was available. There are many variations of this domain name like danu, dano, danno, daanno, daanoo etc. Once a website become famous then the webmaster realizes the importance of these almost similar names. So you should be careful while choosing the name. How to choose a good domain name? What are the qualities of a good domain name? Today I will address these questions.

1. It should be easily memorable :: If you tell someone that this is your domain name then the name should make impact on his brain so that the person would never forget its name. I have a domain called 100rupees.com, in India, at least, if you tell someone that this guy has a website called 100rupees.com then I guarantee, he will never forget this domain name. These days we have many bookmarking websites and even bookmarking facility in out browsers but normal internet users rarely use these facilities. So always choose an easy, memorable and meaningful domain name.
2. It should be as short as possible :: Let’s try to remind you most famous websites on internet. Google.com, Yahoo.com, YouTube.com, msn.com, orkut.com, myspace.com etc. What is common about these names? The number of characters used in these domain names is ranging from minimum 3 to maximum 7. A long and complicated domain name is not good for online business. Always try to choose short and cute domain names, like I have just registered daano.com. Even I always prefer to have domain name less than 10 characters.
3. .com extension is the best :: More than 90 % successful sites on internet are having their extension as .com. If you tell someone that your website is xyz.net then in most of the cases the end user will type xyz.com on his browser and become confused.
4. The domain should have some meaning :: This is not mandatory but if your domain has some meaning which is related to your business then it has added advantage. I have a domain name called 100rupees.com and I believe that this is a very good domain name to start any business or share market related website in India.
5. Never use hyphens in domain name :: Many webmasters use hyphens in their domain names. This is bad practice. We should avoid it as far as possible. It becomes hard for end users to remember the position of hyphen in the domain name so it always creates confusion.
