What is Black Friday Shopping?

in: What is

Black Friday ShoppingThese days most of the e-commerce websites are flooded with Black Friday offers. I got surprised why they are giving offers on the name of Black Friday. Actually, I used to think Black Friday is some sad day associated with stock market catastrophe. Originally, September 24, 1869, is known as Black Friday. The crash was sparked by collapse of gold market. But believe me, there is one more meaning of Black Friday. Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, which is considered as the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. Black Friday is often advertised with “Christmas Sales” or “Thanksgiving Sales” or “Discount shopping day”. The word “black” in Black Friday refers to the term “in the black” meaning making a profit.

On Black Friday, most of the working professionals take the day off which increases the number of potential customers in shopping markets. Black Friday is also regarded as one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year in United States of America. Many retailers open their shops extremely early in the morning. Some of the larger retailers such as Sears, Best Buy, Macy’s and Walmart open their shops as early as midnight on the start of Black Friday and remain open for 24 hours throughout the day until midnight the following Saturday.
