Transfer your WordPress Blog from one server to another

I have just transferred my blog from GoHindi.com to HostGator.com as now I need world class hosting for my blog. Many a time bloggers think that changing server for the blog is a complicated process and it requires high technical support and server skills. But believe me it is just a matter of following some steps. In this article I am going to mention the steps that you need to transfer your blog from one hosting to another.. especially cpanel hosting as I have got experience with moving blogs on servers powered by cpanel.

Step 1: Upgrade your Wordpress blog with the latest wordpress version — It is very simple as if you are using cpanel hosting then you can use fantastico to upgrade your blog. The condition is that you have used it for the initial installation of the wordpress script.
Step 2: Take the Files BackUp — Now download the wp-content folder on your pc or laptop from your existing server. For this you can use any FTP client like ws_ftp professional, cuteftp etc.
Step 3: Take the DataBase BackUp — You have two ways to backup your database. First one to use PhPMyAdmin or you can use backup facility of cpanel for taking the backup of your database.
Step 4: Change the nameservers for your Blog Domain — Now you have to change the nameserver of your domain to the name servers provided by your new web hosting company using the control panel of your domain name. Now DNS propogation may take 24-48 hours.
Step 5: Install WordPress using Fantastico — Now do a fresh installation of WordPress on your new server for your blog.
Step 6: Replace wp-content of new installation with your wp-content. This will transfer all your files, templates and images on your new server.
Step 7: Import your DataBase Backup to the new database — For this you need PhpMyAdmin. You have to select the database and then there is a option for import in it. Now just you have to browse the database backup and click the submit button.

Hey you are done.. Now you can see you blog on your new server. Happy blogging !!!

if you have any doubts feel free to post your comments and queries.
