India wins first test match against Australia

in: Ideas and Thoughts

VVS Laxman has once again showed his immense talent against Australia. He scored a fighting fifty in the second inning and played key role in India’s 1 wicket win in Mohali Test. Indeed, it was a senstational fightback. Laxman, despite being struggling with a back injury, showed immense maturity in second innings and scored unbeaten 73 runs. Raina was his runner. Chasing 216 to win, team India had made only 55 for four (after 17 overs) at stumps on day four. Sachin scored valuable 38 runs and completed his 1000 runs in the calendar year 2010, sixth time in his Test Cricket career.

Indian Captain MS Dhoni scored only 2 runs. Ishant Sharma gave his full support to Laxman in 81 runs partnership for 9th wicket. India were 135/8 in 35.5 overs with Ishant and Laxman at the crease and from that moment they never looked back. From Austrailan side Hilfenhaus and Bollinger took 3 wickets each.

Laxman has always been noted most for his batting against Australia, in both testand one day international matches. Before this test, he has scored 6 out of his 16 test hundreds, and 4 out of his 6 ODI hundreds against Australia. He has two double-centuries in tests, both of them against Australia: his personal best of 281 at Kolkata in 2000-01, and 200* at Feroz Shah Kotla in 2008-09.
