Mumbai Crime branch has arrested an electronic engineer from Bandra for creating a fake profile of his neighbor on Orkut, India’s most popular social networking website. In that profile he also added the phone number of the lady and her husband and some vulgar messages. On March 26, the 40-year-old poor lady received a call from an unidentified person who asked her if she was Nancy D’Costa. Actually that man saw her phone number on Orkut her fake profile. After getting many phone calls, she told her husband.
Then with the help of their son, the couple found the fake profile on Orkut. The the lady said she has suspect over her neighbor. As a result, her husband lodged complain against his neighbor. According to the Police, her neighbor has admitted that he had created the fake profile of that lady on Orkut. The accused, Amir Anwar Saiyyad, has been booked under Section 509 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and clause 67 of the Information Technology Act.
So this incident has once again started a debate on the misuse of social networking websites. The fake profile problem has become very common on Orkut.
There are many methods which can be used to get your fake profile removed from Orkut.
- Use this Contact form of Orkut to send your valid details to them so that your fake profile would be removed immediately.
- Open the fake profile in your browser and select Report Abuse Option in that profile
- You can also lodge your cyber complain here.
- Inform all your friends and relatives about this fake profile to avoid any misconception.

It is a fact that orkut has many fake profiles. Facts should be taken seriously. I request the orkut offcials to take strong action against such people.
respctd sir,recently one of my frnds told me that smeone is using my photo and has made a profile with using my name with abusing language and used my photo.To check that who the person actualy is i sent frnd request to him but found no response..
so i am not able to report abuse against that profile correctly.
