Subramanian Swamy :: The Rockstar of Indian Politics

Subramanian Swamy, one of the most dynamic leaders of Indian politics, shocked the whole country when he exposed the world’s biggest scam till date, the 2G Spectrum scam. Very few people know that how Dr. Swamy pulled cat out of the bag. Three years back, in November 2008, he wrote the first of five letters to PM Manmohan Singh seeking permission to prosecute A. Raja in regards to the 2G spectrum scam. But as expected Mr. Singh took no action, leading Swamy to file a case on his own in the Supreme Court of India regarding the matter. The Supreme court of India asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to produce a detailed report on the matter. And now rest is history. A Raja is behind the bars.

Subramanian Swamy is an Indian politician, Academician and an economist and presently the President of the Janata Party of India. He did his bachelors in Mathematics from Hindu College, University of Delhi. He studied for his Masters degree in Statistics at the Indian Statistical Institute. He then went to study at Harvard University on a full Rockefeller scholarship. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Economics by Harvard University (Class of 1965). From his educational qualifications, you can judge the capabilities of Mr. Swamy. Very few Indian politicians can boast of having such a splendid academics. Right now, he is visiting faculty in University of Harvard.

He was the main brain behind the new economic policy (1991). During the period 1990 to 1991 when Swamy was Cabinet Minister of Commerce and Law of India he created the blueprint for economic reforms in India under Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar Singh which was later carried out in 1991 by Manmohan Singh, then Finance Minister under leadership of Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. Mr. Singh recently confirmed this fact during one interview.

Now let’s come to the title story, why Mr. Swamy is the rockstar of Indian politics? A few years back, people used to believe that Subramanian Swamy was an incorrigible accuser. He has accused Sonia Gandhi of being a foreign spy, Harkishan Singh Surjeet of corruption, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Congress leader Arjun Singh of conspiring to derail the Rajiv Gandhi assassination trial, Vajpayee of getting drunk at an official function, and much more, without ever proving these charges. But everything changed when he came up with his research on 2G spectrum scam and exposed union ministers. Suddenly he became a national hero. He played main role in putting behind bars who have misused and abused the powers they had and hurt our nation in more than one ways.
