Jana Gana Mana is the national anthem of India. It was written in Bengali, it is the first of five stanzas of a poem composed by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Jana Gana Mana was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the Indian national anthem in January 24,1950. I am discussing our national anthem due the hot discussion that took place in my enviromental class yesterday. From that debate I came to know that a large number of controversies exist regarding the appropriateness of Jana Gana Mana as the national anthem of an independent India.
This is the transalation of jan gan man in English
Victory to the ruler of minds of all people,
Lord of India’s destiny.
Punjab, Sindh (now in Pakistan), Gujarat and Maratha country,
Dravida country (South), Utkala (Orissa) and Bengal,
The hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,
And pure waters of Yamuna and Ganga,
They chant only your name,
They seek only your blessings,
They sing only your praise.
Victory to the giver of good for all people,
Lord of India’s destiny.
Victory, victory, victory to you.
Our national anthem was written in 1911 to honour the King of England. The “Adhinayaka” and “Bhaagya Vidhata” is King Geroge V, and the national anthem is nothing but “Jaya Gaatha” of the King of England.
