After a long wait, the Rupee has a symbol like other major global currencies. Earlier five different design were shortlisted for Indian rupee. The Rupee Symbol includes Both Devnagiri “Ra”and the Roman capital “R” and has two parallel lines running at the top. The two parallel lines denotes the Indian Flag [equal to (=) sign]. The final selected symbol was design by an Indian Institute of Technology postgraduate Mr. D Udaya Kumar. Meanwhile, Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd from Managalore has created the Rupee Foradian font that can now be downloaded from their website foradian.com.

By default, the Indian Rupee font is mapped to the grave accent (`) symbol on your PC’s keyboard and you can use the Indian currency font immediately after installing it — just drag the Rupee font to Windows’ Font folder. The website also has an installation tutorial in case you need help installing the Indian Rupee font.
How to use the Indian Rupee Symbol Font ::
- Download the font which is in the ttf format (Rupee_Foradian.ttf)
- Install the font or simply copy and paste into the font folder. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users can right click and install the font.
Once installed you can using it by selecting the font to Rupee and use the ~ key to get the symbol on the page. See the video for more details.
