What is Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna Campaign?

Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna is a project for saving the Yamuna river in Delhi-NCR region. It was started by The Art of Living foundation. The Art of Living Foundation is one of the world’s largest volunteer based, humanitarian and educational Non-Governmental Organizations, founded in 1981 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with the vision of creating a stress-free, violence-free society. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar asked all the citizens to come together and raise awareness and alert the government. Many multinational companies including Microsoft, Educomp and Kent RO have become its partners. The UNESCO, World Bank, JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) etc. are also supporting the campaign.

Yamuna is very important for the socio-economic, ecological needs of the Delhi-NCR region. After rapid industralization of this region over the years, it has become one of the most endangered waterways in India. Do you know that more than half of 3.6 billion tonnes of sewerage produced in Delhi everyday flows into Yamuna untreated? So I think Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna project is a ray of hope for this ancient river. Let’s support this campaign and make Delhi region a better place to live in.
