What is Vastu Shastra?

Now a days, Vastu has become a buzz word for real estate experts and flat or home owners. But what exactly is Vastu? Today we will look into the intricacies of Vastu Shastra. It is a traditional Hindu system of design, primarily applied in Hindu architecture. From thousands of years, Vastu Shastra has been applied to Hindu temples. It is concerned primarily with building architecture – building houses, forts, temples, apartments etc. There is a great importance of Vastu shastra in our life, as it is directly of indirectly linked to happiness and prosperity. And the best thing is that it is based on scientific study and not on assumptions.

The guidelines of Vastu Shastra are very simple and easy to follow. It can be applied to all types of constructions, be it a house, a particular room, temple, commercial complex, shopping mall, industry etc. A proper Vastu extracts the positive energies of the five basic elements of nature – the solar energy of sun, lunar energy of moon, wind energy, magnetic effects of earth and heat energy of fire, balancing them to bring harmony in the life of a person.

Orientation is very important concept in Vastu Shastra. It refers to the eight directions set as the guiding force, which rules the life and destiny of the person who reside in the particular direction of the house. The basic directions according to Vaastu are East, West, North and South. And Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and Northwest are considered to be the conjunction points where the two basic directions meet and such directions are of much significance as they hold the power to execute the powers of both the directions. So Vaastu Shastra is mainly based on the accumulating of strengths diversified by the forces, in co-existence to the Panch bhootas or the five Elements.

Many a times a man purchases a place (plot) or house because it is cheap. He does not pay any attention to the usefulness or harmfulness of the same. If he purchases a place, plot or building using the principles of Vaastushastra, his economic front definitely improves and gets peace and prosperity. However, if the selection goes wrong it leads to financial losses, mental tension, diseases, untimely deaths of family members etc. A proper Vastu we can remove the defects in the structure and enjoy the fruits.
