World’s first billion dollar home is in India

in: India

MukeshAmbani.jpgAccording to the Forbes magazine, the 27-storey skyscraper being built in Mumbai by Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani in India will be the world’s largest and costliest home. Its price would be around 2 billion dollars. Its construction is likely to be finished in January 2009. It will be 550 feet high with 4,00,000 square feet of interior space. 70 million dollar triplex penthouse at the Pierre Hotel in New York is the next costliest home in the world. For this huge project, Mukesh Ambani is taking the services of architecture firms like Perkins Will and Hirsch Bedner Associates. At present Mukesh, along with his wife Nita Ambani and three children, currently live in Mumbai tower.

The name of their new home will be Antilla and its interior would have Indian look and feel. Ambani family is planning to use this new residence occasionally for corporate entertainment also. This home will have a floor for a home theatre, a glass-fronted apartment for guests, and a two-storey health club.

Some of the salient features of this new House are ::

  • Hanging gardens structure of the house.
  • Swimming pool and two storey Health centre
  • 3 helipads on top of the building.
  • Parking space for 168 cars (6 floors) and a floor dedicated to servicing these cars.
  • A floor for Home theatre with sitting capacity of 50

antilla-mukesh_ambani.jpgMukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries is India’s largest private company, in the field of oil, retail and biotechnology. Normally in India, rich people try to hide their money. They prefer to live in small apartments. For example, Mukesh’s father DhiruBhai Ambani used to live in a small flat in Mumbai. Now things have changed, Mukesh has made enormous money and he wants to show this to the whole world.

Well, let’s take the example of Bill Gates. He donated $5bn to the William H Gates Foundation for improving of people’s lives by giving grants to tackle health problems. Whereas our Mukesh Ambani is wasting his wealth. He can create schools, colleges, home for the homeless, free hospitals for poor people. India is still a developing nation and wasting 2 billion dollars for such buildings in India is completely useless.
