Finally this weekend, I got the chance to watch the most hyped movie of the year, Rab ne Bana di Jodi. Frankly speaking, I am disappointed with Aditya Chopra’s direction as he completely failed to repeat the magic of DDLJ in Rab ne Bana di Jodi. Aditya Chopra has upsetted his fans with his outdated screenplay and efforts of taking the audience for fools. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is no DDLJ, it’s not Mohabbaein either. It’s lower than that! I would say, film could have been made much better than this. The story of the movie is quite simple. After the death of Anushka’s father, Shahrukh is married to her but there is a huge age gap between them. This causes difference in opinions, life-style or better say everything. So there is no real romance in the marriage. Then, a dance show airs in their town and Anushka joins the show.
Meanwhile Shahrukh changes himself to get the attraction of Anushka. Actually he starts living dual life, one as a husband of Anushka and other as Raj, the dance partner of his wife. He watches some movies and learns to dance in order to woo his young wife. Throughout the show Anushka keeps falling in love to with this ‘new and improved’ Shahrukh without once realizing that he’s her husband. Music is composed by Salim-Sulaiman who also composed for other Yash Raj Films. The song “Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte” pays tribute to Bollywood legendary actors Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. The song is picturised on Shahrukh Khan and has special appearances by Kajol, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Preity Zinta, and Rani Mukerji. Each paragraph of the song contains lyrics that represent titles of songs filmed on the respective actors tributed. Other songs like Haule Haule and Tuj mein Rab dikhta hai are also audible.
Shahrukh has done well in the role of Anushka’s husband but has completely disappointed the audiences with his over-acting in Raj’s character. Anushka is pretty good throughout the movie. She is only good thing about this movie. Vinay Pathak is incredible. He has done full justice with his role. I have read somewhere that this film has broken the previous records on box-office in first week. Actually this huge response is due to good marketing strategies of YashRaj banner and big fan-following for Shahrukh Khan.
Overall, it is definitely worth a single view due to these 3 reasons :
- Fresh actress Anushka is there to watch.
- Shahrukh is back with some new and some old styles.
- YashRaj banner’s most ambitious project in recent times.
- Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is quite different. It’s not set in London or Switzerland, there’s no sarso ke khet, it’s not about a good looking couple sporting designer outfits and accessories, there’s no parental opposition also.
