Pligg, originally named mename in Spanish, is a web application that allows you to submit an article that will be reviewed by all and will be promoted, based on popularity, to the main page. When a user submits a news article it will be placed in the “unpublished” area until it gains sufficient votes to be promoted to the main page. The original source for Pligg was authored by Ricardo Galli. He was influenced by the extremely popular English technology site digg.com.Thus Pligg will be the best choice, if you planning to launch a social bookmarking website like Digg, netscape, reddit etc.
According to Eric Heikkinen ( Pligg Web Director ) “Pligg is unique compared to most other content management systems because of its flexibility. A web designer can do pretty much anything with Pligg because the software was designed to be used in as many ways as possible. Not only can a person with very little knowledge of PHP and MySQL install it, but they can modify and administer it with relatively little difficulty. For those who have a greater understanding of web languages, Pligg can act as the first step in a highly customized personal content management system.”
Pligg requires that your server has installed a recent version of PHP and MySQL. You must be able to access a MySQL database for storing data, if you don’t know how or if your web host offers MySQL access please contact your host for details. Latest Pligg Beta 9 doesn’t work properly on PHP 4.4.2
