You recall Sarkar because Rann is an equally thought provoking film that portrays a world we’ve only seen only from outside. If you like Sarkar type of movies then you sure gonna find Rann a good movie. The film, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, focuses on Indian media. Before its release, the film was involved in a controversy with the title song which was inspired by India’s national anthem, Jan Gan Man. The Supreme Court banned the film’s promos and the screening of the song in the film. Finally Ram Gopal Varma replaced the song with Vande Mataram.

The Bt Brinjal Controversy

Bt Brinjal is a transgenic brinjal created by inserting a gene from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis into Brinjal. The insertion of the gene into the Brinjal cell in young cotyledons has been done through an Agro bacterium-mediated vector, along with other genes like promoters, markers etc. This is said to give the Brinjal plant resistance against lepidopteron insects like the Brinjal Fruit and Shoot Borer (Leucinodes orbonalis) and Fruit Borer (Helicoverpa armigera). The transgenic brinjal was developed by Mahyco (Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company) in collaboration with the US-based transnational, Monsanto.

Mahatma Gandhi district in USA

GandhiOn the 141st birth year of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi has been honored in USA by officially renaming the name of a district in Houston, Texas to Mahatma Gandhi District. A district in the part of southwest Houston; Hillcroft was renamed this month, catering to the seven-year long demand of more than 100,000 strong Indian-American population living in this area. City Mayor Annise Parker announced the change of name along with Consul General of India in Houston, Sanjiv Arora.

India gets its longest Elevated Expressway

Hosur Road Elevated HighwayToday Bangalore got its first elevated expressway on one of the busiest roads of India, Hosur Road, that leads to Electronic City housing some of the world’s biggest IT companies. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Kamal Nath inaugurated the expressway to traffic at a function near Electronic City. It is the longest elevated expressway in the country. The Hosur Road Elevated Expressway is a 9.5 kilometers long elevated, with 4 lanes of road, tolled, access controlled expressway. The has been built at a cost of 776 crore.
