Yesterday I got one mail from one of my readers. He asked me a simple question. He wrote that he is a struggling Bollywood actor and his height is only 5 feet 8 inches. However these days film industry is looking for new actors having heights around 6 feets. So he is worried whether this may lessen his chances of becoming a good and famous film actor. I wrote in reply that he should not be worried on his height. There are many film actors in Bollywood whose height is even less than 5 feet 8 inches, like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Om Puri etc. By the way, Bollywood fans are always interested in knowing the heights of its actors and actresses. Amitabh and his son Abhishek are the tallest in the actors and Sushmita Sen in the actresses. Now a days, tall actors and actresses are preferred in films but height is in no way related to good acting. Height is an important consideration in selecting the stars/cast for a movie. Even in normal life, men like tall girls as their life partners and girls like to have 2-3 inches taller husband or boy-friend. So this is the big list of heights of Bollywood stars.

Playing chess is one of the ways in which I relax in front of a computer. A decade back, I used to play against the computer. Back then, it didn’t take me long to master my opponent’s playing style and I got bored after a while. These days, however, there’s a plethora of very strong commercial chess playing/teaching softwares which one can purchase and install on one’s computer. One such software that I used and had a great learning experience is Chessmaster 10000 by Ubisoft which remains the best-selling chess franchise in history. But playing against a machine can be a discouraging experience in your early days of learning chess since even moderate softwares can completely destroy an average player.

This week, Meira Kumar became the first woman speaker of Lok Sabha, the directly elected lower house of the Parliament of India. It was really a historical day for Indian democracy. She is a five time Lok Sabha member. However she was Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in the last UPA Government. She is daughter of former Deputy Prime Minister and prominent dalit leader, Babu Jagjivan Ram. She got her early education in Patna and then she did her M.A., LL.B, Educated at Indraprastha College and Miranda House, Delhi University. After clearing the UPSC examination in 1973, she joined the Indian Foreign Service and served at embassies in Spain, United Kingdom and Mauritius.

Today is 20th Anniversary of Tiananmen Square Massacre. Twenty years before, the Chinese students in Tiananmen Square demanded for democracy, but the movement ended in bloodshed. The Tiananmen Square protests were led by Chinese students and intellectuals. Actually the protests were sparked by the death of pro-market, pro-democracy and anti-corruption official, Hu Yaobang, whom protesters wanted to mourn. By the eve of Hu’s funeral, 1,000,000 people had gathered on the Tiananmen square. These people were against the government’s authoritarianism and dictatorship and voiced calls for economic change and democratic reform within the structure of the government. The demonstrations centered on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The movement lasted seven weeks from Hu’s death on 15 April until tanks cleared Tiananmen Square on 4 June. In Beijing, the resulting military response to the protesters by the Chinese government left many innocent Chinese students dead or severely injured. According to the Chinese Red Cross sources around 2,600 died in this massacre, however the Chinese government figure is 241 dead, including soldiers, and 7,000 wounded. I must say, this was really a black day for Democracy.

One more US giant has become Bankrupt. I am talking about United States number 1 car company, General Motors. General Motors was founded in 1908 with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. It is the world’s second-largest automaker after Toyota. However, from 1931 to 2007, it was world’s lartest automaker. This company has around 250k employees around the world. Some of its famous auto products are Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, Hummer, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall and Wuling. Now the question arises that why GM became bankrupt? Actually record oil prices and fierce competition from other auto makers, GM’s higher labor costs compared to its competitors, resulting from its union agreements and pension costs, have contributed significantly to its bankruptcy. Other reasons are liquidity problems, poor status of American economy, drop in sales caused by lack of purchasing power among Americans after sub-prime crisis. General Motors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday, June 1, 2009, with a plan to re-emerge as a smaller and less debt-burdened organization in a couple of months.

It has a huge star cast of Manoj Bajpai, Nana Patekar, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgan and Arjun Rampal. Katrina Kaif plays the female lead in the film. This films revolves around the dirty game of politics which has become a game of trust, deception and betrayal in India. However some new channels are claiming that Rajneeti is a contemporary take on the epic, Mahabharat. Katrina Kaif is supposedly playing the character of Sonia Gandhi. 22nd May was the worst day for abhisays.com. As usual I started my day with Google news, then I don’t know what came into my mind, I searched for ‘abhisays’ in Google news, obviously I got zero search result. Then I clicked on Web Search link on the top and search results for abhisays appeared on screen. In those results abhisays.com was at the top with Google flag “This site may harm your computer”. For a moment, I thought it is due to Google’s Safe browsing tool’s error. I tried to verify my site in Firefox. Firefox also displayed the same error. I clicked on reason of this error. I got this information.

“Prabhakaran’s body was found near Nandikadal lagoon (in the No Fire Zone),” military spokesman Brig Udaya Nanayakkara told Press Trust of India(PTI). He also told the reporters that LTTE chief Prabhakaran was in uniform and there were a bullet in his head. The other two top commanders, Pottu Amman and sea Tiger chief Soosai are also dead. V. Prabhakaran was the founder and leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (the Tamil Tigers), a militant organization that sought to create an independent Tamil state in the north and east of Sri Lanka. Claiming ethnic Tamils had faced discrimination at the hands of the successive Sri Lankan governments, the Tamil Tigers have waged a violent secessionist campaign in Sri Lanka that has led to them been designated as a terrorist organization by 32 countries.
