Laid Off :: Now What Next?

The title gives you a pretty clear picture of what I am going to talk about. For all the naughty ones who read this, it is not at all about getting laid. What I want to talk about is the issue of cutting jobs and laying off people in tough times. I have heard about people who have absolutely meagre salaries being laid off. And, I have also heard of the big wigs who still ensure that they fly business class. Now, if we are cutting costs, why can’t the Head Honchos and the decision makers fly economy class. I mean three trips made by them might be enough to have saved the meagre earning employee (Probably the breadwinner of the family). What I find even more hard to digest is the fact that when the companies made huge profits, did they share the same with there employees, then why would they burden the already burdened employees with pay cuts and lay offs.

Mozilla launches Firefox Mobile Browser for Nokia N900

Nokia and MozillaAs people are shifting from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox or Safari internet browser, there is also new development taking place for mobile browsers. In last few years Microsoft powered Internet Explorer (Popularly known as IE) has lost the ground on retaining its users as other browsers like Firefox and Safari are providing totally new experience of Internet browsing with many add-ons and in built plug-ins. Firefox is one of the biggest players in the desktop internet browsing space, but when it comes to browsing the web from a mobile, Mozilla is still to make a leap. And that will be going to change soon, as the first version of Firefox Mobile (previously known by its codename Fennec) is going to be released by the end of 2009.

AskMen.com’s Top 99 Most Desirable Women is an annual list compiled by AM readers and staff, ranking the famous female stars and celebrities. Their readers are asked to look beyond sex appeal and beauty to pick women who have the characteristics they value in a potential companion, like intelligence, humor, charisma, and ambition. This year around 10 million voters participated in the poll. Also, there are two Indian beauty queens in this list, Katrina Kaif at 48th position and Aishwarya Roy at 60th rank.

Nandan NilekaniToday I got the chance to listen to the honorable Dr. Nandan Nilekani, Chairmain, Unique Identification Authority of India. Dr. Nilekani, an IIT Bombay alumnus, is the co-founder of the 2nd largest Indian IT services provider, Infosys. During his tenure with Infosys he served various roles from Managing Director to Chief Executive Officer and also was on Board of Directors of Infosys. In July 2009, he joined the Government of India for the execution of one of most ambitious projects, allocating Unique Identification Number to every Indian Residents. This 16 digit unique number will be given to every Indian resident and not only to Indian citizen. And this number doesn’t confer any citizenship or any special rights.

The combined fortune of India’s 100 richest persons is $276 billion which is almost equivalent to one-fourth India’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product). In this list, Mukesh Ambani (CMD Reliance Industries) is at the top position with net worth estimated at 32 billion USD. His brother, Anil Ambani is at third position whereas Lakshmi Mittal is on second position in the list. Software czar, Azim Premji is at fourth position with net worth estimated at 14.9 billion USD.

India becomes number one Test Team in world

It was a fantastic performance by Indian batsmen first, and then bowler showed their capabilities in both the innings to take the wickets in regular intervals. India, the team which were always in talk for last 5-6 years and has the capability to reach to the top, attain the status of number one team in the ICC test ranking after beating SriLanka in the second test match at Kanpur. The Green Park stadium at Kanpur has been lucky to India on many occasions in the past, but it is this performance which will be remembered by Indian cricket fans at least for some time, as the whole team combined together and performed as a unit to beat the powerful Lankan side, which put India under huge pressure in the first test match. As the ICC rankings are updated once the series is over, this win has put India into joint 1st spot with South Africa.
